Power 32 Stops turning after 50% Power

Default Power 32 Stops turning after 50% Power

Hi

I have a power 32 that will turn up to but not past 50% power. Does anyone know what the problem might be and if its repairable. If its repairable can you help you provide guidance.

Did you check your throttle trim on the transmitter?

Also, this might be a problem with your ESC. Have you tried different esc's and batteries?

Thanks for your response, although I should provide some more context.

This motor is out of a e-Flite Albatros that had the original ESC 60 in it. The ESC failed and it was replaced with a newer version. However, when the original ESC failed it did cook all my electrics on it and the motor had been acting up ever since. Thank god it failed on the take-off role...

You can now smell some burning but when I took the motor apart I could not see any damage. My guess is that there is some but cannot see it and do not know how to determine where or how to fix...

If you can smell the motor and it smells burnt, Chances are that it got damaged, the test above will let you know for sure, IMHO, E Flite ESC are not the best ESC out there , use Turnigy ESC, IMHO they are Bullet proof Its all I use and never ever had any problems with them, test your motor before hooking it up to a new ESC. use the Red Plush or Sentry turnigy ESC. they have a Switching UBEC.

I expect its demanding more power than the battery can deliver and shutting down on low voltage detect at the ESC

Or... maybe the ESC is programmed for the wrong cell count.

All as an update,

As recommended I ran a drill test (Passed) and I ran a volt meter test on all 3 power connectors (Passed all combinations resulted in same Voltage). I then tried two fresh batteries 3 & 4 cell. As it turns out the motor began to smoke once throttle exceeded 50% power, the motor stopped spinning and started smoking.

My thoughts are that the winding is damaged. So my next question is their a good tutorial on how to rewire a motor. Never done it before but would like to give it a try.

Its really all about paying attention to details and packing as much copper as you can fit into the the stator.
Air is wasted space. More copper = more power.

I've wound and rewound a whole bunch of motors, brush and brush less types. IMHO, its just not worth it, what with the low cost of motors now days.

Plus you need magnet wire. I did!

Check gobrushless.com. they used to have winding info.

+1 I agree with Denny, Its just not worth the hassle to rewind motors, motors are so inexpensive now days, unless you wanted to custom wind a motor for a specific torque or speed.

Who can argue with the logic of motors being inexpensive! :-). I do appreciate everyone's input and time. I think I will file the old motor into garbage bin and look at the options provided.
