Hi Maximus,
Beautiful job on the Hun. I have purchased one and want to do a few upgrades myself. What is the final flying wieght of your set up and what fan/motor is in it.? I am going with the 8s set up with the ARC 36-75-1 and a ice 100 ESC. I am hoping that this will be sufficient for power up in Denver at a higher glassed weight. Also what did you use for the nav light covers? I have a couple of light kit projects myself on youtube at rc cirrus glass panel and rc bonanza light kit. Hope the maiden went well and I would really like to see a vid on this plane! hope to hear from you soon

Just found this thread.. Wow!!! fantastic workmanship, especially the finishing, just superb!
Do you have any details of the specs, power system, all up weight etc? I'd be interested to know how much weight the glassing added?

Ok Ok already, enough with the speculation! Drum roll please…. It crashed on the maiden, didn’t last more than 30 seconds in the air. I bought a new JR Radio, X9503 for this build, I was talked into switching from Futaba by the local hobby shop. Not sure if I had the second receiver positioned just right, it range checked fine and I did a lot of taxing around at home, I have about a 275ft paved driveway to do this on. Anyway everything looked good at the field, she took off like a homesick angel and I immediately retracted the gear. Starting my left bank and heading down wind when she went past me…. Then nothing, the stabs went to the neutral position as if the radio was not bound anymore, and it started a very slight right bank all by itself. I just stood there and watched it fly away and into the ground. Found out there was a recall on the radio and software changes were made but they would not pay for my loss. I sold the radio back to the hobby store at their cost. I have another HUN, but I don’t like to get right back at the same project after such a set back, I didn’t stay away because of embarrassment, more to do with letting people down and frustration on my part. I don't really care now what I did wrong or what happened with the JR radio, I'm staying with what works for me, so I will not comment on that further.
I actually have everything installed in my new one, just need some final sanding and glass it. I will continue here with build #II because it seems to be of interest to people. As an example of the weight the glass adds, each stab came out 1/2oz heavier from stock after final painting and clear coat.
Power was plenty given how it took off, Typhoon 600-37-2 Brushless Motor, HET Fan with the stock Fly Fly housing, HET-75A ESC. Battery is a Hyperion 6s/22.2V 4200mAh pack.
Here is a step by step for glassing:
1. Fill all panel lines and dings with light weight spackle. Used 1/64” ply on wingtips and other areas that were damaged or prone to damage. Final sand with 220 grit sand paper and vacuum all dust off.
2. Mix Lightweight Spackle and Durham’s Water Putty in a 1:1 ratio. Dilute with water until it flows like paint.
3. Brush a liberal coat all over the foam surface making sure that the whole surface is covered and all holes are filled. Allow to dry completely.
4. Sand with 330 grit sand paper. Follow with 400 grit sand paper for a smooth finish. Vacuum all dust.
5. The plane is now ready to glass. Use Z-poxy and Denatured Alcohol. Mixing is approximate, generally I use a ratio of 60 percent epoxy to 40 percent Denatured Alcohol.
6. When applying the cloth I overlap areas, especially the leading and trailing edges.
7. As before mix Lightweight Spackle and Durham’s Water Putty in a 1:1 ratio. Dilute with water until it flows like paint. This will be used to fill the weave of the cloth.
8. Sand as before being careful not to sand through the cloth, this is generally not a problem because this mixture sands so easy as compared to the cloth.
9. For the primer coat I use a water based house primer. Spray this on in very thin coats and let dry thoroughly.
10. Sand with 330 grit sand paper following with 400 grit.
11. Now you are ready for paint, on my electrics I use Model Master paints. I use a very fine line artists felt pen for panel lines. I also make my own decals on my computer and then follow with a clear enamel to seal it all.

That's a real shame, must be all the more frustrating when it was caused by equipment failure. 'Pilot error' is somehow easier to deal with.
Still looking on the bright side.. the lessons you learned with the original should make the second version even better (if that's possible).

Sorry to hear about the mishap. 
She was a really beautiful plane, and you have alot of talent. I wish I had 10% of your talent when it comes to modelling. And the Hun is one of my favorite jets.
Keep us posted on the HunV2, and any other projects, please. Love to see good work.

I didn't see the date(s) of the flight but we also had a maiden flight on the Hun. Ours ended in a similar manner. A couple of questions if you don't mind...
1) Where was your CG?
2) Where was your flying stab trailing edge in reference to the servo?
Ours seemed to be very nose heavy and I made a cross wind, downwind, base and CRASH! I held full up elevator during the entire flight and needed more.

Sorry to here about your problems, man not sure what to say but mine is set up just as the manual says. My stabs were positioned right at the center of the servo for the first flight. I did have to add lots of up trim with all the bombs and tanks. Just got back from the field, another day of flying this great bird! I hope you can figure out what is going on, good luck.
Here is another video of a flight where I was wringing it out a bit. I've upgraded the motor, batteries and ESC. I'm running a Typhoon 1200kv motor on 8S Sky Lipo 5000mAh 40c packs with a 100amp Castle ESC. MAN! This bird can perform now, very nice!
