Shipping a plane?
#1

Has anyone had any experience shipping an RC airplane around 60" wingspan? I was wondering if it would be best to just bring it to UPS and find out what they would recommend, and how much it would cost to ship.
I will probably have two planes offered for sale in the near future. One, the Snafuey II, is ready to fly and has a Futaba Rx (easy to change out to your brand if needed.) It's a 48" span, shoulder wing, original design taildragger with a semi-symmetrical airfoil. Recommended for 3S, 2200mAh battery. Excellent 'second plane' or just a relaxed flyer. The other is the RCM Advanced Trainer, 58" span, with NO electronics installed except the flap servo (I was going to use the electronics in another build, but....) but a complete list of components it was flown with can be included, or the components can be purchased and shipped with the plane for re-installation. I flew it with a 5S pack. It could probably be converted to a slimer with a little creative work.
Once I figure out shipping and shipping costs, I'll post an official notice in the FOR SALE section.

Both are great planes, I would venture a guess to say you are about to get some serious sticker shock when pricing out the shipping. It's really high. I've done it and it's a lot of work, and worry too making sure it will get where it needs to get. FWIW, it seems everyone in CA wants stuff from the East Coast. As if the shipping cost isn't bad enough, finding something to fit the plane is the other hassle. Some folks build their own crate. Greyhound is sometimes a good choice, the cheapest usually, but they take longer, don't have as many destination options, and the tracking is almost zilch.
Try to sell them locally, or post them up here and on RCG for local pick up only. If the price is right, they will sell quickly.
