Interceptor AV Drone "Aerial Video Platform"
Hello aerial video geeks like me. I thought I would take the time to share one of my latest projects called the Interceptor HD Video Drone. My video drone Interceptor was designed around the Vado HD Generation II camera.
The Vado Gen II camera produces excellent quality HD video for around $179.00 and only weighs 4.0 ounces. If you search Ebay you can find Vados for cheaper. Make sure it's a Gen II all others are powered by AA batteries not lipo.
Like most people wanting to make aerial videos the prop not being in the video was a must and at the sametime I wanted a work horse plane. One that could take on missions after being built.
After alot of testing along with trail an error attempts the Interceptor has proven to be a very good platform for making aerial videos. Although I'm still working on issues in the Interceptor, the platform is getting better and better with every flight.
INTERCEPTOR VIDEO DRONE SPECS:
Wing:78 in.
Fuse: 48 in.
Tail: 19 in.
Vertical Stab: 10 in.
AUW: 2lbs with Vado HD
Motor: Towerpro 2409-18
ESC: Towerpro 30amp
Servos: HXT900 9grm.
Lipo: 2S 3500mAh 20C
Prop: 11.5 APC
Controls: Ailerons, Elevator, Rudder, Flaps
Thrust: 19 ounces
Special Components: Eagletree altimeter, GPS Data Logger
Construction of the Interceptor is from 1mm depron, balsa, spruce, and Elmers 5mm foamboard. The wing is balsa rib with 1mm depron skin to cover and Elmers 5mm foamboard flaps n ailerons. The tail feathers are 1/8 balsa with vinyl checker board sticker for covering. The fuse is Elmers 5mm foamboard with paper left on entire fuse. Total time in construction is around 22 hours give or take, and was designed solely around the camera mentioned.
The Interceptor Drone was built and constructed on my R/C liveshow in front of my viewers with them putting thoughts into its construction and design. I do a live R/C show which is called Friday Night Foam Freaks and this is simply dedicated to those who like to build planes on Friday night. The Interceptor is completely scratch built with around 30 peoples thoughts. I just did the construction of the aircraft on my show.

AERIAL SNAP SHOTS FROM THE INTERCEPTOR:
Since the start of the Interceptor Video Drone many things have happen and advancements have been made. Im now working on a second platform called the Aero-Cuda with a 10ft WS and 6ft fuse. If you want to keep up on what the Interceptor is doing I have a Blog I submit info to about flights, crashes, and more. I hope you enjoyed this and if not maybe it will inspire you to build a video ship yourself.

Just noticed Wattflyers video code does not allow the HD option in the video links here, so if you wish to have it in HD I guess double click the video here. Maybe the staff can catch the site up to speed by changing this.

Pushing Limits...
Took the Interceptor Video Drone upto 2000ft today. Did some testing with new gyros and a Navin gps data logger.
2K HD Decent...Starting in the cotton clouds.

Hey James that was some awesome stuff there buddy thanks for posting it up.
Good pointers on your ending of the third video about knowing your controls and the planes reactions. When you went into the cloudl I thought that it might be over for the plane. Tha t plane glides like crazy you have it balanced, and trimmed out great to accomplish that glide time. Pics are great to that is one heck of a storm video stay safe ya nut.
