Brewster 30" 9mm Combat Fighter "With Plans"

The more I think this over, the more I thinks its the fact everything is on the left side, not so much the weight, but the components causing drag over there making the plane want to go left,,,balance left to right may show right, but things hanging out in wind grab air going by, I think would that would change the balance, specially in movement, causing the roll. Kind of like hanging a paddle out one side of a conoe..you can balance all you want, the conoes turning. just a 12am thought..pardon me if I retarded.

I split the electronics fairly equal, side to side, and the plane shows itself as well balanced laterally when being held by the motor bell....wings stay level.
For now anyway, using my Optic 6's mixer to work the ailerons with the rudder I find it turns equally well both ways BUT my rolls have become a bit wobbly from the rudder's influence.
Oh well, can't have everything! LOL

I agree the theory is sound, wind drag can be a major hurdle........BUT where I have the blunt end of the battery is on the right side of the fuse, making us believe if our theory is true that the drag would be forcing the plane right........which in fact we are experiencing the opposite effect in that she argues with a right turn command.
I know...weird huh?
I am going to double check my aileron throws one last time, just to put to rest any lingering doubt to their equality.
Otherwise....I'm flying it!! LOL

Hehe, yeah the pink Mav thing is seriously funny..thanks Gramps
Flight#6 on the Air Corp Buffalo was a great one. I went to our regular field (nearly 3 times the size of my local soccer field) and put her in the air.....another xlnt flight! With more room to maneuver, I was able to really let her reins out and give the airframe and motor a real workout. Now with over 120W on tap and with zero issues of field size, I flew her near wide open for a good amount of the run......beautifully large loops, huge Cuban 8's and more and vertical perf better than ever. I am really enjoying this little plane (it's only one of two I have built smaller than 34"ws .....my mini Kaos is 30" as well) and with the little tweaking I have done with the rudder I am happy with her flying now. With the 8X6 prop she was a real bullet, bumping the wattage over 130, but runtimes suffered a bit.
The added rudder control makes for great landings as well, making an easy touchdown even sweeter.
I'm going again tomorrow.....guess which plane will be among the chosen?

AL thats SWEET...Why do I hear Rattttttt-Tatttttt-Tatttttt, hes either dodging bullets or given em, NICE PIC!!!
I'm waiting to see that rudder operation in video, Ray is the first to rudder the Brewster, I would have done it but since being a new pilot I see it as one more thing that can make crash LOL

Oh yeah, here 'Pilot......at approx 1:52 check out the 180 I get her to pull with wings level...LOL. Truthfully, I don't use the rudder THAT much but I do have it mixed in with the ailerons approx 15% to help her groove through the turns and maneuvers. You'll notice though that upon my graceful (hehe) landing I certainly didn't remember to use it.......I'm still learning it seems.

OK Guys, n Gals, Let's see those Buffalo's. Lipo did a great job with the design and the Kit, so lets see em.
Here's mine. I have finished it and maidened it since these pics were taken. It took off fine, but my voltage cut off must have been set to low, cause the motor quit, and the plane took a dive. Had a rough landing, broke out the elevator control horn. Easy fix, will try again this week.
By the way, nice work Ray! It looks like we're flying for the same squadrin.

As a complete NOOB, I've trolled many R/C electric sites and literally hundreds of threads with little to nothing in the area of how to build a scratch built foamie for a beginner. Most are just the plans and a few tips with several scraps of building information with very little comprehensive instructions.
It's safe to say that your Brewster build was TOP NOTCH instruction that can be applied to any and all foamie builds.
It should be required reading for any NOOB.
Thanks!

Pantseatflyer,
Welcome to Wattflyer. James has truly outdone himself with this thread. Many a happy Brewster flyer have been discovered by following this thread and learning along the way.
You have found the friendliest RC Flight forum on the planet. Welcome again.

Glad you posted,
Pantseatflyer
Anything you need as far as questions or concerns with the Brewster build, please don't hesitate to call on us..OK? They're a great plane to fly and would suit a new flyer with adequate simulator time..
Further more though, WELCOME TO WATTFLYER!
