Too bad World Models does not specify the Idle Current Io for this motor as I could run some estimates! :o
The primary reason that I did not go with the recommended (and let me point out the operative word "Recommended") was because I wanted to have a light Mustang on my hands because of the careful inspection on the STOCK Retracts and I just do not feel that those retracts can take too much pounding from a heavy 3.8lbs. model no matter how careful you are on landing.
I fly at an RC Club with grass field so, I needed to have my model light for the final touch down to be as Slow as possible so, I would not tear up the main Retract gear.

Carlos, just finished your full read on the mustang, great pics and informative as well. The plane is a beautiful representation of the "real deal" world models appears to be a quality company with attention to build and detail. How long have you been flying/building? just curious...

I am glad that the Thread was helpful and I have been flying RC airplanes and Crashing since October 2002
As young as 10 years old, I did fly U-Control with those Carl Goldberg Stunt .049 Glow jobs as I just could not afford RC back then.

I have decided to go back to the STOCK "SUPER LIGHT" FOAM wheels as came with the Model because I do not want to stress the STOCK retracts any in the future and so, they can last a long time.
The Hangar9 Super LITE rubber wheels are scale but, they are just too heavy in my opinion for retract operation, at least for this model.
I do not taxi on grass as lately we have a big problem with Armadillo created holes and do not want the model to nose over under power.

Flaperons on WMP51

Have you tried using flaperons on your P51? My Spektrum 6xi will allow me to do so. I have set them up on my HZ Super Cub for testing. I have not had good enough weather to try them out in the air. Do you think that use of flaperons will help landing speed or is the plane able to handle well enough at landing speed as is?

I have not setup nor used Flaperons in any model that I own and fly and especially this model.
I have made this model light enough that it slows down very slow and I do not need Flaps nor Flaperons.

It's all your fault. If I hadn't seen your video on You Tube and now your build thread here, my wallet wouldn't be as empty as it is now. I blame you for all of the fun this airplane will bring me. My fleet is complete (for now ....). I now have my two favorite WWII war birds (also have the PZ Corsair).
I couldn't wait so, last eveing I drove 40 miles to the hobby store that had one in stock and bought it. I'm all smiles now and can hardly wait for the motor to come in the mail.

By coincidence I just got this same plane and no I haven't got it out of the box yet.
You planning on putting that Pulso motor on it (I am). I just got a 5 amp UBEC just in case I need it.

I got a good friend that just ordered the world models AT-6 and Corsair. If they look anything like the P-51 I'm sure he'll be happy.I also got the stock motor setup for the P-51 and I want to compare it with the Pulso 2820/12

Which servo do you plan to use for the retracts. I've found one with 48 oz. inches of torque. It's the JR Sport and it's fairly small and will fit the compartment very well. According to guapoman's report, it should be enough for the after-market scale wheels.
I'll also take his advice about the spinner and servo thingamajig that slows the retract servo down.

I want to put a 3 blade or 4 blade prop on the standard Code No KM0374810 engine that is recommended for this plane. What size prop should I get using a 4s Lipo?

Pulso recommends a 12X5 with the X2820/12. I'm going to try an 11X7E in the beginning and adjust as I need. If it runs cool and powerful with the 11X7 I'll probably try a 12X5 ...if it makes anything run hot I'll go back to the 11X7. So for me, it's really an semi-educated wild guess.
Good luck wth it.
