Question Larger tip airfoil, smaller root airfoil

I recently bought a CD of 1000's of aircraft plans from ebay.
I found this plan interesting but would like to slightly modify the build.
The main "thing" I was think of doing was the wing.
It uses a constant size chord for the airfoil with a shaped aileron.
I was think of using a different size chords to get the shape but was worried that having a thicker airfoil would give bad flight characteristics.
I thought maybe if the thickness of the airfoil may be better, having a thin/long airfoil on the tip and a fatter/shorter airfoil on the root.
Does anyone know if this would be a problem??
There is a copy of the plans on the post , "Der Slopen Stick".

It looks like a drag farm in the original format. Constant chord thick wing.
Thin the entire wing section.
Tapering the wing will lose the basic "Stik" shape.

I would like to keep the "Stik" look, thats the appeal too me.
I'd even like to add the dip's along the trailing edge to look like fabric tension between the ribs.
